Dale Hoffman Obituary

A kind and gentle man, Dale E. Hoffman passed away, after a brief illness, Wednesday night, June 29th, 2016 at Marion General Hospital, with his daughter by his side. He was 90 years old and a resident of Marion for over 50 years.
On November 20th, 1925, Dale was born in Ashland, Ohio, the middle son of three boys to the late William and Eva (Middleton) Hoffman. He graduated from Polk High School in 1943. Dale served in the Army Air Corps from February 1944 until November 1945.
He married the love of his life, Norma Jean Anderson, on Jun 5th, 1949, at the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield, Ohio. Always saying he knew the moment he met her that he was going to marry her, they were married for 59 years.
Dale was employed by the Erie/Conrail Railroad as a signal operator for over 40 years. After retirement in 1987, he spent over 20 years traveling to Florida for the winter with his wife.
As a member of Epworth United Methodist for over 50 years, he and his wife were very active with the church youth group. Dale was a member of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge as well since 1962.
He enjoyed building, sailing, and eventually racing his own sailboat, "The Little Turtle."
He was well known for telling jokes because he liked bringing a smile to everyone's face whenever possible.
Preceding him in death was his wife Norma Jean, his brother Bob (Betty) Hoffman, and his brother Wayne (Jeanette) Hoffman.
He will be dearly missed by his daughter Nancy (Joe) Haubert of Marion, Ohio; his granddaughter Jennifer (Zach) Guerrieri; and his great-granddaughters Carrigan and Cadence of Fishers, Indiana.
Dale's family will greet family and friends from 4 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday, July 5th, 2016 at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home, 122 W. Columbia St., Marion, Ohio. Services to honor his life will follow with Pastor David Hoffman officiating. Burial will take place at the Caledonia Cemetery the following day, July 6th, 2016, at 10 AM. A procession will take place from the funeral home to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Epworth United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, 249 E. Center St., Marion, Ohio.
On behalf of his family, they would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Nohay and the nursing staff of Marion General Hospital for their care, kindness, and compassion.
