Elmer L. Plumley, age 88 of Mt. Gilead, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Woodside Village Care Center. He was born on August 7, 1929 to the late Carroll C. and Viola J. (Anthony) Plumley, and he later married his first wife Doris M. (Gruber) Plumley, who preceded him in death in 1997. On November 11, 2000, he married his second wife Charlotte (Mason) Loren, and she survives in Mount Gilead.
Elmer retired from Marion Asphalt Co., but he spent most of his life as the president of Plumley Contractors. He was an accomplished traveler, having been to Australia, Alaska, Italy, and beyond, and he was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church before converting to the Trinity Methodist Church with his wife.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte of Mount Gilead; his daughters Rebecca A. Harrah and Carolyn M. (Garry) Bailey of Marion; his step-daughters Deborah (Fred) Robinson of Marion and Greta (Bill) Branford of Plymouth, Michigan; his brothers John (Colleen) Plumley of Atlanta, Georgia, and Jerry Plumley of Richmond, Virginia; his sisters Roberta (Bill) Hill of Oklahoma, Gloria Ringle of Oklahoma, and Judy (Ron) Schef of Marion; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carroll and Viola, his wife Doris, and his brothers Carroll, Jr., Duane, and Ed.
Calling hours will be held Monday, January 22, 2018 from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Services will take place on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 1:30 pm at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Waldo Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Cancer Society.
