Gerald Ziegler Obituary

Gerald Everett Ziegler, age 92, of Marion, went to be with his Lord & Savior on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at Brookdale/Clare Bridge of Marion.
Gerald was born on August 4, 1923, in Delaware Co., to Lowell and Florence Elizabeth (Evans) Ziegler. He graduated from Radnor High School. Gerald also attended Ohio Wesleyan University before serving in the U.S. Army in WWII. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Gerald married the love of his life, Helen Schultz Hopkins on April 9, 1950. Together they shared 57 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2007.
Gerald was a man of great faith. In his younger years, he and Helen were devoted members of the Green Camp Baptist Church. He served in many capacities including Deacon, Trustee, Church Moderator, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader and choir member. For the past several years he attended Cornerstone Alliance Church. He dearly loved his involvement in the Cornerstone Café at the church.
He was a tremendous provider for his family. Before retiring in the late 1970's to care for his wife, he worked for the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A&P Supermarket) as a meat cutter in Delaware and Marion for 30 years. After Helen's passing, Gerald's spare time was spent going to the Prospect Senior Center to play various card games. To keep his mind active, he spent countless hours putting together difficult jig-saw puzzles.
Gerald will be dearly missed by his family: son - Michael L. (Jana) Ziegler of Marion and 2 grandchildren, Aaron M. (Shelly) Ziegler of Marion, Lindsay N. (Dan) Kelly of Caledonia, and three Great-Grandchildren, Conner Ziegler, Logan Ziegler, and Emmaline Kelly.
Preceding him in death along with his wife and parents were two brothers, Howard Ziegler and Robert Ziegler.
A grave side service will be observed on December 4th, 2015 at 1:00 PM in the Prospect Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Gerald's name to Kindred at Home Hospice or to the Christian and Missionary Alliance Great Commission Fund via the Cornerstone Alliance Church of Marion, Ohio. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the exceptional care that Gerald received from Brookdale/Clare Bridge of Marion, along with the Kindred at Home Hospice.
