Henry VanVlerah Obituary

Henry "Hank" VanVlerah went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, November 21, 2015 surrounded by his family. Hank was born on May 10, 1959 to Paul & Frances (Blanton) VanVlerah in Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother; Jeff VanVlerah, a sister-in-law; Joanne VanVlerah and a stepson; Eric Alcott. He is survived by his siblings; Ed VanVlerah, Penny (Steve) Allen, Crystal VanVlerah all of Marion, a sister-in-law; Nita VanVlerah of Gillette, WY., and a stepson; John Alcott of Hepburn, OH. He is also survived by his lifelong buddies; Greg Burkett, Bobby Simpson both of Marion and Ceil Heinz of Mt. Gilead. He has many nieces & nephews that he loving referred to as his "Gang"; Christy (Scott) Baker, Toni (Shawn) Sands, Nate (Andrea) VanVlerah, Sara Allen, Ryan Schlosser, Aaron Schlosser, and Jenny Vargo along with many great nieces & nephews that he loved so much. Hank received his formal education in the school of life. He possessed a passion to live life to the fullest. Hank was a dreamer and he chased and caught most off his dreams with a gypsy spirit. He traveled all over the country and abroad and made lifelong friends wherever he laid his head. He had a very giving soul and would help anyone in need before he would help himself. He would give his last dollar to someone in need. Hank loved Christmas and loved buying for his nieces & nephews. He was famous for buying toys that were not age appropriate but bought them because they were cool and he could play with them. His nieces and nephews thought that Uncle Hank hung the moon. Hank loved to tell stories of his travels and he could put a spin on a story that left you scratching your head and wondering if it was true. He loved to make people laugh and it was impossible to ever be mad at him. Hank always looked for the good in people whether they deserved it or not. He often quoted his father in saying "It doesn't cost a dime to be nice". Hank was a great guy and will be deeply missed by all. Hank's final wishes were for cremation with no calling hours. He asked that his family and friends get together and have a celebration of his life. He also asked that when you think of him to think of him as he is on holiday in Heaven. Enjoy your holiday Hank. A celebration of life is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, any contributions may be made to the Boyd-Born Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
