John E. Marks, age 77, of Marion, Ohio, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Morningview Pointe. He was born December 1, 1937 in Wharton, West Virginia, to the late James Allyson and Mabel Claire (Eades) Marks. On September 18, 1957, he married Lucrechia Hale Bonecutter in Letart, West Virginia, and she preceded him in death on December 13, 1990.
John was retired from the Whirlpool Corporation in Marion, Ohio. He was an expert woodcutter and carpenter and a very creative soul. He loved to help others, and he was a great cook and candy maker. He was an amazing father, husband, and grandfather, and he was much loved by his family. He dearly loved his grandchildren, and he loved older cars.
He is survived by his three daughters, Tammy (Michael Phillips) Marks of Marengo, Ohio; Judy (Brad) McCurdy of Marion, Ohio; and Melissa (Dewayne Prater) Marks of Ridgeway, Ohio. He is also survived by his brother Fred Allyson Marks of West Columbia, West Virginia, and his sister Nancy Lee Powell of New Haven, West Virginia, as well as eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Kaye Marks.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 2:30 PM at Grand Prairie Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Pastor Tom Hype. Family will receive friends one hour prior at Boyd-Born Funeral Home from 1 to 2 PM.
