Susie Weir-Johnston Obituary

     Susie Mae [Zieg] Weir – Johnston, at the age of 103 was called home by her loving savior on Thursday morning November 26, 2020. Susie Mae, was the sixth child born to William and Lillie [Retterer] Zieg, Maple Grove Farm in Pleasant Township, Marion County, Ohio. She was born on February 27, 1917 at the family home and delivered by her paternal Uncle Doctor C. W. Jacoby. She had one brother, Robert [Cartha] Zieg, and three sisters Alfreda [Elton] Ralston, Estelline [Rudolph] Kinsler And Docie [Marion] Laucher. Two sisters died shortly after birth. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Reformed Church in Richland Township which was razed several years ago. She spent her all her school years attending Pleasant School graduating in 1935. After graduating from Marion Business College she was employed in the offices of Arter and Reber, attorneys, the Marion Loan Company and HPM in Mt.Gilead, Ohio. Always interested in Music, she was a voice student of Mrs. Eugene Moore, a piano pupil of Miss Clara Bowen and others. She also enjoyed being a member of the Marion Lecture Recital Club.

     On September 21, 1941 she married G. William [Bill] Weir son of Loren E. and Sarah Alberta [Neal] Weir of near Kirkpatrick. Bill farmed and Susie set up housekeeping on the Weir homestead property on Marseilles-Galion Road East. They had two children Su S. Weir-Rowles [Husband David] of North Robinson, Ohio and W. James [Jim] Weir [Wife Marcia] of near Kirkpatrick, Marion County, Ohio. On February 11, 1953 G. William [Bill] died after a long battle with Cancer and Susie went back into the workforce. First employed at the Marion County Soil and Conservation Office and later going to the Marion Engineers Depot, where she was employed for their various Government Contracting Agencies.

     On June 14, 1963 she married Billie Johnston of Agosta [New Bloomington] the only son of Otis L and Jessie [Metz] Johnston. Susie and Billie accepted Salvation and were baptized by Reverend Ruben Leuthold in the pond at Wayside Chapel Church in Bucyrus, Ohio. They were married 34 years when Billie died suddenly on July 17, 1997. Upon retirement Susie became interested in Weaving and was an Accepted member of the Weavers Guild of Ohio. She was accepted in various shows throughout Ohio, her woven items were also sold in several shops, including some in Holmes County

     She was blessed with a loving family and the Grandmother of Jon D. Rowles, and Aren S. [Rowles] Chandler, North Robinson, Ohio. Laura Weir, Cincinnati, Ohio, Sarah [Weir] Homer and Husband James, Ponte Vedra, Florida. Great, Grandchildren, Claire [Chandler] Hoffman and husband Jonathan, New Holland, Ohio, and Maegan Chandler, North Robinson, Ohio, Ava and Anderson Homer of Ponte Vedra, Florida, and Great, Great Granddaughter Reagan C. Hoffman.

     Susie’s family sincerely appreciates the care she was given by the good folks at Kingston of Marion, Westbrook Assisted Living and Memory Care, Upper Sandusky and Kindred Hospice of Marion. Graveside services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Susie’s name to the Epworth United Methodist Church or the Palace Theater in Marion, Ohio.
