William Stump Obituary

William Winford Stump, age 84 of Marion, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2019 at his residence.

Bill entered into this world on June 4, 1935 to the late Wilson and Helen (Kistler) Stump in Pickerington, OH.  Bill was the second child of 6.  His father passed away when he was 11 and the family was split into 4 sections.  The oldest daughter stayed with her mother.  Bill and his brothers went to foster families and his other sister went to another foster family.  It wasn’t until later that the adopted parents passed away and Bill and his two brothers went to live with an aunt Chloe Van Atta in Delaware, Ohio, who was also caring for her father.  During this reunion, they all became very close.  It was much later in life; all the children were finally reunited.

Bill served our country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960 and was in the reserves until 1964.   He married Norma Jean Clark on June 19, 1960 in Marysville, OH. Then, he worked at Whirlpool Corporation as a press operator for 41 years.  Bill was a member of the Prospect Street United Methodist Church for 59 years.  Also, he was a member of The Hicks and Chicks Square Dance Club for 40 years.  He was involved with the Boy Scouts for 17 years and a member of Pleasant Senior Citizens.  Bill enjoyed trapping in his friends’ woods and farms.  Bill operated “Bill’s Sharp-All” since 1971 until just a week ago.  He will truly be missed by family and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers: Richard and Dale Stump.

Those who will cherish his memories include his wife: Norma Jean (Clark) Stump of Marion, OH; his son: Bob (Abby) Stump of Prospect, OH and his daughter: Susan (David) Hause of Marion, OH; his brother: James (Uta) Fox of Belleville, IL; his sisters: Eileen Kinser of Lancaster, OH, Janice Korvel of Lewis Center, OH and half-sister: Bonnie Groff of Norfolk, VA; his grandchildren: Eli Hause of Oviedo, FL, April Brust of Bellefontaine, OH, Joel Hause of Delaware, OH, Collin Stump of Frisco, TX, Jordan Hause of Smyrna, GA and Mariah Coen of Powell, OH; and his two great grandchildren: Landon Brown and Leo Stump and one great grandchild arriving in January.

Friends and family may come to honor Bill’s life on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Prospect Street United Methodist Church, 185 South Prospect Street, Marion, OH  43302.  A funeral service will follow starting at 1 pm at the church.  Burial will follow funeral service at the Marion Cemetery with military honors by the Marion County Veterans Council.  Donations may be given in Bill’s memory to the Prospect Street United Methodist Church.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at: www.boydbornfuneralhome.com.
