Gale T. Shumate, 82, of Marion, OH, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2018 at Harding Point Nursing Home. Gale, born September 5, 1935, was one of three children born to the union of the late Oscar and June Shumate in Marion, OH.
After high school, Gale served as a medic in the 101st Airborne unit of the Army. He then married Jeanie Monk, whom he was married to for 40 years, and they were blessed with three children. Gale was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union. He was an excellent welder, and later in life he worked as a mechanical maintenance man at Honda for 5 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Sheridan Shumate, and a great-grandson, Lakota Sturgeon.
Left to cherish Gale's memory includes Jeanie Shumate, sons, David and Daniel Shumate of Marion; daughter, Deborah Shumate, of Tennessee; sister, Joyce Sutherland, of Mansfield, granddaughters, Searra Sturgeon and Saretta Rivard, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be observed on Friday, August 3rd at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home from 6:30-8:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 4th at 10:30 at the Church of Christ in Christian Union (CCCU) on Bellefontaine Ave., with Rev. Don Seymour officiating. Burial will follow at the Grand Prairie Cemetery in Brush Ridge.
The Boyd-Born Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Shumate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made to Church of Christ in Christian Union.
