Gerald Hanshaw Obituary

Gerald Marion "Boo" Hanshaw, age 69 of Marion, passed away after fighting a hard-fought battle to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) along with dementia on Monday July 9, 2018 at his residence surrounded by family.
Gerald was born on October 4, 1948 to the late Charles and Willa Mae (Cox) Hanshaw in Marion, Ohio. In November 1998, he married Karen Campbell.
He graduated from Harding High School in 1968. He retired from the Marion Township Fire Department after serving 28 years. He picked up part time jobs after retiring as he was not one to sit idle. Karen and he enjoyed taking rides and going on poker runs on his Harley. Thanks to wonderful, giving family, friends and people unknown to a fund raiser which gave them the means to travel Route 66; a bucket list item of Gerald's. He loved his Cleveland Browns, no matter what. He also enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes both football and basketball. He loved his grandchildren dearly and enjoyed their company when they came to visit.
Gerald is survived by his wife: Karen (Campbell) Hanshaw of Marion; his daughters: Jeanna Hanshaw (Rusty Gorrell) of Marion, OH, Melanie Kannaird of Millersport, OH and Melissa Bosart of Marion, OH; his stepchildren: Jodi (Steve) Hack of Mt. Gilead, OH, Michelle (Ramie) Large of Caledonia, OH, Jennifer (Adam) Snyder of Lewis Center, OH and Adam (Sierra) Wenig of Marion, OH; his grandchildren: Teresa, Lisa and Johnathan Gendrow and Erika Lyons; eight step grandchildren; his three great grandchildren; his brother: Keith (Nancy) Hanshaw of Barberton, OH; his sisters-in-law: Theresa and Jan Hanshaw; his half-brother: Leslie Hanshaw of Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Larry and Ernest Hanshaw.
