Alvina Linnette Goodwin, age 57 of Columbus, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020. She was born on July 17, 1963 in Marion to the late Alvin and Joan (Dancy) Goodwin.
Alvina worked for the City of Columbus as an assistant to the director for the Department of Development for 28 years, where she was known as the heartbeat of the department. She was a welcome force who yielded a velvet hammer (most of the time, sometimes it was just a hammer). She was a warm, kind and a fiercely loyal friend.
She is survived by her son John (Alex) Culver of Columbus; her devoted sisters Sheila Goodwin of Marion and Sheri Goodwin of Columbus; her daughter-in-law Ahkila Culver and her grandson Jaxon Culver. Her love for her family was matched only by her dependability. For many, she was an outlet that always made herself available. Her light and impact are everlasting and will continually be commemorated.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Joan and her brother Andre Goodwin.
Friends and family may come to honor Alvina's life on Friday, August 14, 2020 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Kings Temple Apostolic Church, 285 Senate Street, Marion, Ohio 43302. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2020 at Kings Temple Apostolic Church starting at 12:30 pm with Elder Tyrone Kaiser officiating. Burial will follow service at the Marion Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Alvina’s honor to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.
