Barbara Gayle (Large) Malone May 26, 1940 – May 3, 2026, 85, of Mt. Vernon, Ohio passed peacefully surrounded by her family on May 3, 2026. She was born on May 26, 1940 in Wurtland, Kentucky to Charles and Pearl Large, who both preceded her in death.
Throughout her working years, Barbara was known for her dedication and kindness. She spent over 20 years at The Smith Clinic in Marion, Ohio. Her coworkers and patients alike admired her professionalism and caring personality.
As a proud Christian Barbara’s faith guided her every day. She treasured time spent with her family, finding her greatest joy in being the heart and leader of her loved ones. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished every visit and celebration. Always ready for a new adventure, Barbara loved to hop in the car and go to Florida, where she often visited and looked forward to spending valuable time with family. She also enjoyed camping and crocheting beautiful creations for those she loved.
Christmas was Barbara’s favorite time of year. She was famous for her Christmas candy, a tradition her family and friends looked forward to each season.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter Malone, and sons Tom Gates and John Gates, along with several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son Michael (Jennifer) Gates, daughter Brenda Kupiec, sister Edith Moore and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.
There will be a graveside service held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Chapel Heights Memorial Gardens in Marion, Ohio, followed by a lunch at Victory Center Church. Pastor Patrick DeMuth will be officiating.
Barbara’s life was one of faith, love, and family and her legacy of warmth and generosity will continue to bless all who knew her.
