Barbara Ann Sanders, age 76 of Arlington, Texas, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023 at Kindred Hospital in Arlington after a hard-fought battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Barbara was born on November 8, 1946 in Marion, Ohio, to the late Earl O. and Esther J. (Mills) Caldwell. She grew up in Marion, graduating from Harding High School in 1964. As a graduate and newlywed, she lived in Germany which sparked her lifelong love of travel. After returning to Ohio, Barbara was a homemaker and member of the Bucyrus Jaycee-ettes. In 1977 she made Cheyenne, Wyoming her home. Barbara retired in 2012 from a long career in banking customer service, and then enjoyed a very active retirement.
She delighted in the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains and loved sharing this part of God’s beauty with family and friends. Other hobbies included cheering for THE Ohio State Buckeyes, spending time with family, and keeping family traditions alive, as well as working on jigsaw puzzles until the wee hours of the morning.
Barbara often felt encouragement and hope from the younger generation of the Church of Christ, especially in the message and ministry of Lubbock Christian University’s a cappella singing group, Best Friends. During the 2 years that her granddaughter, Kyra, sang in the group, Barbara enjoyed watching them perform and developed true friendships with many members of the group. She also loved baking with her daughter and granddaughters, especially enjoying Katy’s chocolate cupcakes and creative decorating adventures.
She is survived by her former husband Terry Sanders; daughter Kelly (Adam) Yeager; her sister Norma Caldwell; her grandchildren Kyra and Kathryn Yeager; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Esther Caldwell; her son Roger A. Sanders; her daughter Janet L. Sanders; her sisters Deborah Caldwell and Karen Comer; her brother Walter Caldwell; and her great nephew Christopher Caldwell.
A 1:00 pm service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held at Boyd Funeral Home on Friday, September 22, 2023 with visitation beginning 2 hours prior to the service. Chaplain Cathy Hughes will officiate with burial following at Chapel Heights Memory Gardens. Donations may be made in Barbara’s honor to Lubbock Christian University’s Best Friends at lcu.edu/give (other designation-Best Friends) or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
