Bertha Marie Shappard

     Bertha Marie Shappard, age 74, of Lakeview, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at 4:47 PM in the Union Co. Memorial Hospital Surrounded by family.  She was born in Louisa, Kentucky on November 10, 1946 to the late Millard and Lona (Salmons) Hughes.  Bertha was a past member of the Eagles Lodge at Indian Lake, and she enjoyed quilting, fishing, and had a true love for her family. Her favorite thing was scratch-off lottery tickets.

     Bertha was head cook at the Union Manor Nursing Home in Marysville, Ohio for 24 years then she was apartment manager for 12 years before retiring in 2005.

     She is survived by a son; Scott (Jeanna) Culwell of Raymond, OH., a daughter; Shelley (Chuck) Crumley of Celina, OH., a brother; Nelson (Laurie) Hughes of Marion, OH., a sister; Jewell Ward of Waldo, OH., 5 grandchildren; Dustin Culwell, Johnathan Culwell, Glenn Jolliff, Jochlyn Kokas, & Crystal Carter, and 7 great grandchildren; Gabriella, Jacob, Jimmy, Sammy, George, Abagail, & Austin.  Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; Millard & Lona, a brother; Bernard Hughes, and 2 sisters; Maxine Beekman & Wanda Culwell.

     Friends may call at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Monday, November 30, 2020, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Masks and social distancing will be required. Following visitation, a graveside service will be held in the Grand Prairie Cemetery at 2:30 PM Monday. Rev. Grover Caudill will be officiating. Donations in Bertha’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
