Ernest "Ernie" Levan VanVoorhis

Ernest “Ernie” Levan VanVoorhis, 90, of Marion, Ohio, went to be with his wife and his Lord and Savior on June 28, 2026. Born on March 21, 1936, in Delaware, Ohio, Ernie was the son of the late Leroy and Dorothy (Strawser) VanVoorhis. After moving to Marion, he met the love of his life, Leona “Lee” Marlene Belt. They were united in marriage on September 5, 1959, in Marion and shared more than 63 years together before the Lord called Leona home on November 17, 2022.

Ernie was a hardworking man who retired after a 46-year career in the assembly department at Whirlpool. He was also a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A man of strong Christian faith, Ernie lived his life guided by his beliefs. An avid outdoorsman, Ernie enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing. His hobbies were raising game birds and finches. He also enjoyed cutting firewood and mowing lawns in the community. He had a passion for antiques and enjoyed refinishing furniture and collecting glassware.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Leona.

He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith, humor, and cherished memories to be carried on by his daughter, Tina Burns of Columbus, Ohio; sons, Tim (Wanda) VanVoorhis of Marysville, Ohio, and Todd (Danette) VanVoorhis of Waldo, Ohio; his grandchildren, Tim, Heidi, Ashlee, Sarah, Micah, Emilee, Cody; and his ten great-grandchildren. Ernie will also be missed by his “Breakfast Crew” at McDonald’s and his friends and the staff of DeWolfe Place.

The VanVoorhis family invites all who knew and loved Ernie to join them for calling hours at Boyd Funeral Home on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., with interment immediately following at Marion Cemetery.
