Florence Marie Wright

Florence Marie Wright, age 94, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Presidential Post Acute, her residence since February of 2023. She was born on March 20, 1930 to the late E. Merle and A. Marie (Dickerson) Wright in Marion.

Florence graduated in 1948 as salutatorian of her class from Claridon School. She received her diploma on Thursday night, and come Monday, she started working in insurance, becoming a licensed agent and continuing her career for thirty-four years. She then became an accountant for SEMCO, Inc., retiring in 1994 after thirteen years.

She liked to travel, visiting all fifty states, Mexico, Canada, several continents, and cruises. Her last “big” trip in 2007 took her to Australia, then a cruise to New Zealand, up the east coast to Auckland. She liked to knit, crochet, craft, golf, and bowl.

After living all her life in the country, seventy-nine years on Salem Road, she moved to Marion in 2017. She enjoyed being a member of Marion Senior Center and the many friends she made there.

Florence is survived by three nieces: Faye (Gary) Martin of Morral, Susan Cole of Marion, and Carolyn Stockdale of Mount Gilead; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews; and special friends Clare Bronson and Pat Gatshall.

She was preceded in death by her parents Merle and Marie and her sister Betty.

Per her request, no public calling hours or services will be observed. Family may call one hour before burial at Marion Cemetery.
