Genevieve Joy Collins

Genevieve “Joy” Collins, age 84 of Marion, passed away in the evening of Saturday, November 21, 2020 at her residence

Joy was born on January 5, 1936 to the late Riley and Freda (Ritchie) Middleton.  On August 31, 1957, she married the late Kendrick Collins, Sr. in Marion, Ohio.

Joy graduated from the Harding High School class of 1955.  She was a lifelong member and church-mother of the King’s Temple Apostolic Church. Joy retired from the Marion Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after working various areas for 20 years.  After she retired, Joy served on the selection committee for the Habitat for Humanity here in Marion.  She enjoyed coloring books and baking.  Joy will truly be missed by family and friends.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband: Kendrick A. Collins, Sr.; her daughter: Marcia Middleton; her sisters: Juanita Jackson, Phyllis Finch, Sharon Lomax and LuEtta Keith; and her brothers: Rodney Middleton, Clarence Middleton and George Middleton.

Those who will cherish her memories include her sisters: Diane (Richard) Pickens of Marion, OH and Patricia Pickens of Marion, OH; her sons: Travis Collins of Marion, OH, Kendrick A. Collins, Jr. of Marion, OH and Nelson (Sheila) Collins of Delaware, OH; her “special son”: Vincent Collins; her daughter: Carrie (George) Pittman (their children Kendra Williams, Enoch and Abdeel Pitman, and Deadra Allison) all of Spartanburg, SC; her twelve grandchildren; her numerous great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 starting at 1pm at the Marion Cemetery with Elder Tyrone Kaiser officiating.  Donations may be given online in Joy’s memory to Habitat for Humanity, www.habitat.org. The family would also like to thank the American Nursing Care and Ohio Health Hospice. The Boyd-Born funeral home is honored to be serving the Collins family.
