Harold Eugene "Red" Thacker

Harold Eugene “Red” Thacker, Jr. age 78 of Marion, Ohio passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Sycamore Run Nursing Home in Millersburg, Ohio.

He was born May 23, 1942 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Harold E. and Marie (Freeman) Thacker Sr.

Red was a U.S. Marine Veteran serving from 1961-1965. He was employed at Marion Power Shovel for many years as a crane operator, after it closed, he worked construction for various companies. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW posts here in Marion where he enjoyed spending time with friends having a cold one.

He is survived by his daughter, Darrla (Jason) Vaughn of Marion, OH., his three sons, Darrin Thacker of Marion, OH., Darrick Thacker of Georgetown, KY., and Darryl Thacker of Georgetown, KY., seven grandchildren, Shyanne Thacker, Mariah Thacker, Dalton Thacker, Peighton Thacker, Owen Thacker, Maryn Thacker, Nathaniel “Tater” Vaughn, one great grandchild, Wesley Eugene Brown, his two sisters, Libby Kerns of Marion, OH., and Kim Thacker of Jackson, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley Mount.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2020 from 12pm to 2pm at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home, with Military Honors conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council. Graveside services will follow at 2:30pm at Grand Prairie Cemetery with Rev. Nathan McBeth officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Junior Service Guild Christmas Clearing House in care of the funeral home.
