Jack Murray Obituary

Jack Alan Murray, 87 of Kenton, OH, left this Earthly world on January 15, 2023. On November 24, 1935, his late parents Jasper Russell Murray and Elizabeth Hetzel, welcomed him into the world. Jack would find the love of his life, Dixie Lee Porter, and marry her on Vine Street in Marion, OH on March 26, 1955.

Jack was a hard-working man his entire life. Early in his working career he worked at Dugan’s Men’s Store and became a manager for Hy-Way Roller Rink, as well as a good skater. He worked for Joe Davis, and on the Marion railroad. He would go on to work for the Stumbo Company until he owned it and retired after 42 years there. One of his proudest achievements while working there was becoming licensed in all 50 states and territories for contracting. When he retired, he sold Stumbo Co. and started Alan Industrial Maintenance. Jack also owned the Grindel Ammunition Company. He even owned Ballinger Paint and Glass and Touch of Color Paint Store, which he merged together. His success in business stemmed from his gentle nature, his incredible generosity, he was kind and humble beyond means. Besides work, Jack donated his time to Turning Point, and he was on the Board of Directors. He helped build the original McKinley Park Project Playground. In his free time, Jack loved to travel and take trips in his motor home. Playing in his poker club earned him the nickname “Chainsaw”. He also loved to visit Key West. One of his favorite places he enjoyed visiting was Jack’s Manhattan Island a.k.a. Walnut Island on Indian Lake. Regardless of where he was, he loved to be with his wife and family more than anything.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents.

He leaves his legacy behind through his daughter, Jody (Craig) Murray-Lackey of Marion, son, Jack A. Murray, II of GA, sister, Doris (dec. Howard) Cameron of Lima, OH, sister-in-law, Barb (dec. Dick) Rech of Marion, grandchildren; Leslie Murray, Grover, Maria, Jasper, Lily, and Jack Murray, Jade (Javier Zarazua) Morgan Lackey, Winton Cole Lackey, and Jack(Ashley Russell) Cain Lackey, great-grandchildren; Airian Harmon, Ayden Weaver, and Easton Cole Lackey.
