Ray Arthur Hughes

Ray Arthur Hughes ,age, 83 passed away on April 15, 2024 at Riverside Methodist Hospital with his family by his side. Ray was born August 24, 1940 to the late Heskell and Eva (York) Hughes in Prospect, Ohio. On November 7, 1958, he married his soulmate, (Mary Kathryn Dripps-Hughes).

Ray was a graduate of Harding High School. Ray retired from Marion Steel after 33 years of service as a supervisor. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, shooting pool and playing cards. He was a master carpenter remodeling every room in the family home. He was a member of Oak Knoll chapel and attended the Marion Senior Center. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and business associates. He enjoyed spending time with his lifelong friend Dave Watson, Mike Labounty, Gary and Darlene just to name a few.

Preceding him in death is his son William Ray Hughes, grandson Timothy Howard Hughes and child of Deborah Sue Sayre. Also his Mother Faye and Father Heskell Hughes, twin brother Roy, Jim Hughes, sister Betty Cress and many beloved friends.

Those who will cherish his memories includes his wife of 65 years, Mary Kathryn Hughes of Marion, Ohio; his daughters: Deborah Sayre, Diana (Jimmy) Hudson and Nancy (Jerry) Butts all from Marion, Ohio; his sisters: Janet Blevins, Erma Williams, Sharon Brewer and Carol Tearzo; his twelve grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren and eight and “one on the way” great-great grandchildren.

Friends and family may come to honor Ray’s life from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Boyd Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 starting at 11am at the funeral home. A burial will follow the funeral service at Grand Prairie Cemetery. Please join the family for dinner afterward at Oak Knoll Baptist Church located at 1007 Vanatta Ave, Marion, 43302. Donations may be given in Ray’s memory to: Oak Knoll Baptist Church.
