Richard Allen Eckard, 85, of Marion, OH, passed away on July 31, 2026. Born May 5, 1941, to his late parents, Charles Edward Eckard and Olive Evangeline (England) Eckard. Richard found love at first sight when meeting Jean for their first date. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Jean Eckard, and were married July 25, 1997.
Richard graduated from La Rue High School, class of 1959. Richard worked for the Quaker Oats company as a journeyman maintenance mechanic, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW 688) where he retired as a journeyman electrician. Richard was a hard worker, loved helping family and friends. He was always happy, laughing, and telling everyone his favorite jokes. In his spare time, he enjoyed Ohio State football, riding motorcycles, shining his hot rod and going to car shows. Richard was loved by everyone and will be deeply missed.
Richard is preceded in death by his many brothers and sisters whom he carried fond memories. Warren “Dub” Eckard, Merle Dale Eckard, Charles “Buzz” Edward Eckard, Jr., Robert Gene Eckard, and Thomas Leroy Eckard, his sisters, Grace Imogen Eckard, Evelyn Mae Felty, Eva Delores Williams, Betty June Shelton, Phyllis “Cit” Dawson, Karen Sue Eckard, Virginia Ruth Eckard, Mary Elizabeth Eckard, and Judith Eckard Hickok.
Richard is survived by his spouse Margaret Jean Eckard, Children: Rachel (Eckard) Burns, Melissa (Cary) (Eckard) Reed, and Matthew Eckard, Lisa (Larry) Arnt, Grandchildren: Meaghen (Phillip) Cornell, Jacob (Kelby) Burns, Andrew (Melody) Elsasser, C.J. The Eckard family wishes to invite all who knew Dick to join them at the Boyd Funeral Home for calling hours on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be the next day at the funeral home on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 10 a.m. Immediately following the service, there will be a procession to the LaRue Cemetery where an interment will take place. The Boyd Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the Eckard family in their time of need.
